What is Wire-Haired VizslaRescue?

The United Hungarian Wire-Haired Vizsla Club created a Breed Rescue program in order to  respond to any Wire-Haired Vizslas who may be abandoned or surrendered to shelters. The UHWVA defines a "rescue" as any HW Vizsla from various types of shelters, a stray, an abandoned dog, or a dog whose owners can no longer care for it. UHWVA Breed Rescue is dedicated to the welfare of such HW Vizslas. Rescue program workers are volunteers, and give their time, effort, expertise, and often their own resources to help such HW Vizslas in need. UHWVA Rescue is supported entirely by donations, therefore we always welcome and appreciate donations of funds, supplies, and services.

Dogs in the rescue program are spayed, neutered, and evaluated before placement into a new home. In addition, all applicants wishing to adopt through the rescue program are carefully screened by experienced Rescue volunteers.  A detailed questionnaire, interview process and home check are all part of this screening process.

If you are familiar with this breed and think that adopting a dog
through rescue might be an option, please fill out the below adoption application:

HOW TO SUPPORT RESCUE EFFORTS

Much can be done to support rescue efforts.

Here is a list of things to look over and ways to offer help.

  • Foster dogs- fostering a dog can be from as little as a week, to as long as a few months. It varies on whether or not we have adoptive families waiting.
  • Donate unwanted crates, blankets, bedding etc. Shop at garage sales, flea markets etc. and look for blankets, leashes, collars, crates etc. to donate.
  • Buy an extra can or bag of food, or a toy when you shop for your own dogs and store up a bag of goodies for rescue.
  • Offer to help with transporting a rescue to a new home, or pick one up from a family who is surrendering one. Any small donation of drive time is helpful to the volunteers and foster folks who are usually already over worked.
  • Pick up a rescue from a foster home and take it to a park, or to your own yard for a socializing outing. This too gives the foster folks a breather.
  • If you are a breeder, donate $10 per puppy you sell to the rescue programs funds. Or take an amount off of the purchase price and ask buyers to write a check out to the UHWVA for the  Rescue fund.
  • Pick an amount of money ($1, $5 ,$10,  you get the idea) and send a monthly check to rescue for each dog they rescued that month.
  • Send a donation to rescue for special occasions in your life (birthday, wedding anniversary etc) or that of your own pet (birthday, show wins, hunt wins etc).
