Life With a Wire-Haired Vizsla

Qualities and Traits of the Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla

The HWV is:

A close working walking hunter’s dog- being slower and more methodical than many other of the versatile hunting breeds.

A breed with tons of natural ability, but one which requires a different approach to training due to their “soft” nature. They are not a breed that can handle harsh training methods or harsh corrections.

A breed of high intelligence and a “thinking” breed, which cannot be pushed hard during training, (or you risk ruining them.)

A dog which is sensitive to owner’s moods and desires, so with a knowledgeable owner, a training program progresses very fast.

A dog with a sense of humor, so the owner must have one as well, in order to exist happily with one.

A breed that notices anything and everything new or different.

A breed that responds easily to just verbal corrections, making them easy to control.

A breed that adores it’s family, and is intensely loyal and devoted to them.

A breed, that because of it’s fondness for people, does NOT do well as a kennel dog.

A natural water dog, and natural water retriever.

A breed with a low maintenance coat, ( if bred to the standard for the breed.)

A calm family companion inside the home, yet always ready to run, hunt, play etc. if asked.
