The United Hungarian Wire-Haired Vizsla Association has adopted the following Code of Ethics to promote a high standard of practice in both owning and breeding.
As a member of the United Hungarian Wire-Haired Vizsla Association, I agree to:
Always conduct myself in a manner which reflects credit and professionalism upon myself, my dogs and the sport of purebred dogs, regardless of location or circumstances.
Protect and advance the development of the Hungarian Wire-Haired Vizsla through continued improvement of stable temperament, soundness, natural hunting ability and conformation as set forth in the official Hungarian Wire-Haired Vizsla UKC standard.
Assist new owners of the Hungarian Wire-Haired Vizsla by sharing my knowledge
Maintain the best possible standard of canine health, cleanliness, and veterinary care in an environment conducive to the stable development of my dogs.
Provide that Hungarian Wire-Haired Vizslas owned by me or in my care receive proper immunization, parasite checks and treatment when necessary.
Breed only with the intention of improving the breed, by breeding only those Hungarian Wire-Haired Vizslas who conform to the standard as recognized by the UKC, and who exhibit soundness, stable temperament and natural hunting ability.
Breed only those dogs that are free from serious hereditary defects, and who have been x-rayed and OFA certified as free from hip dysplasia, and who have obtained CERF clearance from the Canine Eye Registration Foundation.
Take full responsibility for dogs I have bred or sold, including supporting rescue efforts through involvement with any Hungarian Wire-Haired Vizsla in rescue. Support may include, but is not limited to financial, fostering, transportation, and/or rehoming.
Not breed, sell, or consign puppies or adults to pet shops or other commercial venues, such as lotteries or raffles.
Honestly evaluate the quality of puppies/dogs sold, fairly represent that evaluation and urge buyers to spay or neuter those which will not be used for breeding.
Not release puppies to new owners before the age of 7 weeks.
Furnish instructions on feeding, care, vaccinations, pedigree and a sales contract.
Screen all prospective buyers to assure that puppies have safe and loving homes.
Supply assistance and support to puppy buyers for the life of the dog
Encourage owners to become involved in Hungarian Wire-Haired Vizsla activities, and the United Hungarian Wire-Haired Vizsla Association.
